silver lining
An element of hope or a redeeming quality in an otherwise bad situation, as in "The rally had a disappointing turnout, but the silver lining was that those who came pledged a great deal of money." This metaphoric term is a shortening of "Every cloud has a silver lining," in turn derived from John Milton's Comus (1634): "A sable cloud turns forth its silver lining on the night." Courtesy of Wikipedia. Life is, without a doubt, a bitch. I'm not being angsty 'bout it, but it is sometimes. Despite this, I still find that children can make you forget that rather quickly. The happy kid in the photo is my younger sister Carolyn. We were stuck inside that day due to some heavy downpour, but it had been my bright idea (forgive the pun) to go play in the rain. Even so, I wasn't sure it was a wise idea until I caught this shot of her making the best out of what shoulda been a crappy day. |
